What To Wear For A Wedding: Outfits For Men

The invitation says dress formal, but what exactly does that mean? If you are wondering what to wear at a wedding, you are not alone.
Dress for weddings has a set of rules. Don’t worry, the info you need is likely on the invitation,
and with our helpful guide below, you’re guaranteed to look great.

Black Tie

Black tie, in other words, means you probably want to opt for a tuxedo with a black bow tie, cummerbund, and patent leather shoes. This is the most formal of wedding types so you want to make sure to dress the part. Some of our favorites for black tie attire are the Abbott, Waltham, or Gala.

Formal or Black Tie Optional

Even though there’s a choice between two styles, we still recommend you err on the side of being more dressed up than not. You’d always rather be overdressed than feel like the odd one out. If you opt for the black tie attire, see above, otherwise we recommend a formal dark suit, tie, and classic dress shoes. Our suggestions to pair with this type of dress are the Halloway, Kaine, or Tinsley.

Destination or Beach

What to wear for a wedding on a beach? A summer suit with a linen shirt (no tie required), linen pants or khakis, paired with lightweight shoes or sandals. But don’t be fooled! This isn’t just a day at the beach. Let the beach vibe speak through your clothing, don’t just look like you’re headed to the beach to hang out. Some of our favorite warm-weather, wedding friendly styles are the Corby, Corley, or Ferdinand.

Semi-Formal or Dress Casual

This is often the most difficult type of wedding to dress for. It’s easy to go awry and stray too casual which is something you don’t want to do. For weddings like this, we recommend a suit and tie, dark or light depending on the season, and versatile dress shoes. We recommend the Garrison, Tinsley, or Desmond.

Casual or Daytime

Casual weddings really let you express yourself. But be careful to not outshine the newlyweds! We recommend dress pants or khakis with a button-down shirt or polo, paired with lightweight shoes. As we’ve said, you always want to err on the side of being more dressed up than not, but with a casual wedding feel comfortable knowing that you don’t need to reach for a suit. For these weddings we recommend the Marledge, Martfield, or Prentice.
